Are You A Concoct~er?

Definition...

Concoct: To invent, make up, contrive

Yes, I am a concocter...Is that a word? Concocter...I have always had a vivid imagination. That also goes for concocting decor and furnishings in my home...I bought that old mantel about 3 years ago...I didn't really know what I was going to do with it...I just thought it SCREAMED Meme...I love anything black and white...I drug her home, dusted her off and tried her in every area of my home...I sadly had to tuck her away and forgot about her for a while...

Until one day, I was at Kirkland's Home and found that mirror you see hanging in the middle of the mantel...It was on clearance for 75% off...I got it for $50.00! I thought to myself...How cute would this be with that mantel! And then my wheels started turning...I thought it reminded me of an Old Time~y Saloon in the wild west.... I drug that mirror home...I knew without measuring, that it would fit...I am good when it comes to eyeballing...

{Eyeballing...that is a weird word...There goes my imagination, again...Sometimes I think I would be rich, if Hollywood could get in this funny, little mind...It is a mystical place...And quite comical, I must say...;)}

Yes, it fit...So, now I had to find a side board or dresser to sit my new "concoction" on...It had to be bar height to make bar tending easy...You would of thought I would of started with the sideboard and then the mantel and lastly, the mirror...No, Screaming Meme is a bit dyslexic...lol But, it is working for me...so, why worry?

{Not to change the subject, again...;) But I sometimes forget that I am dyslexic...I was strolling along at Lowe's the other day...And I saw John Deere Mowers...I subconsciously read "John Deere" on the mower...I was still strolling along in my own little world and started thinking about the new movie, Dear John...I thought, "Why did that come to my mind?" and I giggled to myself...I read Deere John...Oh, my funny, little brain ;)}

I was working on a model home and had to find a few more pieces before I turned her over to the builders...I walked into a high end rustic furniture shop and there was "THE" rustic Texas style sideboard...Sitting quietly tucked away, like some forgotten treasure...It was perfect for my game room bar, I thought...I had to put her on layaway...And pay her out...

There she is... the "Old Saloon" Bar in our game room...She is so happy sitting there on display...She gets dressed up for the holidays...And when we have guests over, we bring out the "adult beverages" that hide in the cabinets...Yes, she is versatile...I plan on adding glass shelves and a light at the top for when I want to light her up and show her off...I think she is pretty as she is now...It could easily be a hutch in a rustic dining room...A sink could be plopped in the middle of the cabinet and she could be the center of attention in any bathroom or fancy outhouse ;)...The possibilities are endless, when you use your imagination to "CONCOCT"...What can YOU concoct today?

XoXo, Screaming Meme { The Concocter} ;)

I couldn't agree more! Where do you live in Texas? I'm not sure if you were thinking that I still live in VA or TX. I've lived here in Texas, the DFW area for 10 years and there is so much I have yet to see. Love it here and though VA will always hold a dear part of my heart, I'll never leave Texas! My oldest is 3 and is a cowboy all the way down to his boots! Thanks for all the nice comments!

Hi & thanks for inviting me over to your blog. Actually, I think I've visited before, but don't remember reading how Screaming Meme got it's name! LOL! Maybe I should have named mine "Screaming Penny" because I hear those crazy little voices too. In fact, I heard them today (and most days, unless we have snow - which shuts down the entire south!)

Love your mantel. I'm crazy buying stuff like that. I have actually bought stuff for my future sunroom & future office (which I had to give up when we moved here). I just know I'll have one again some day!

I laughed when I read about your family blog. It is so ironic b/c I was witchin' to my husband at dinner how one of the nut jobs in my family sent me a letter and a bunch of junk in it today. I had just been thinking how I wish we could select our family members instead of being granted them. Then, my 4th grader is doing a project on family heritage (Lord help us!), and showed me our family crest today. I know mine must have a 'nut' tree on it. If it doesn't, it should. So, I'm off to read about the nuts in your family. Misery loves company!

Love some Texas bloggers! I'll be back. Sometimes I have to visit & not comment b/c I'm holding my 5 month old & I get tired of typing left-handed. Take care! Penny

Meme, you crack me up for sure-I love that! This is a great sideboard/bar, or whatever! It does remind me of old western bars. You are a good concocter! I like to do that too.

I love this! Agreed, you're a wonderful concocter. And I too am a great eyeballer, I can match colors miles away without a swatch, as in painting and decorating. Loving your blog! I love the mantle, my parents got me into antiques at a very young age and it's only gotten worse!
