Thank You From The Bottom Of My Heart!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the prayers, good wishes, emails and comments...My "Baby" was rushed to the emergency room a few weeks ago with excruciating stomach pain...He had an appendicitis...It was an odd one...the appendix was pointing down and twisted. The surgery was successful but he had more pain due to it being upside down and twisted...

The hospital was wonderful and the staff went above and beyond. After surgery the anesthesiologist came out smiling (a good sign and the first chance for me to finally breathe) and hugged me...She gripped both my arms strongly, looking into my eyes and said..."You have done such a wonderful job raising him...He is the nicest, most polite young man we have ever had in here. He was so thankful and considerate. After surgery we told him it was all done and gripped my hand and said "thank you...thank you soo much!..." (He told me he didn't remember that...so even better...I have brainwashed him to be polite even subconsciously! ;) haha!)

"Middle" and I took him on a scroll through the hospital and found a atrium to sit and enjoy...though very humid...It was nice to get some fresh air! The coy fish were fun to watch! And NO we did not feed them...;)

He is a sweet boy and I am proud of how he holds himself up in public...all three of my boys are like that...All the nurses were commenting on his good looks too...lol One nurse said to him...Too bad it is summer...You can't miss any school...He quickly said...No! I love school...I don't like to miss it! I then as a proud Mama, said "Yes, he does and he wants to be a doctor!" :D
One of the anesthesiologists came in as I was saying that and said, "You should think about becoming an anesthesiologist"...Now he is kicking that around...This year he starts a pharmacy class in High School. He is excited to get started and be able to be a pharmacy tech while doing it. It will get his feet wet, that is for sure.

The nurse should of never said the kitchen is open for you all to use...There is jello, pudding and drinks...You can HELP yourselves...lol They did several times!

He is doing much better and is able to get back to his cross country running next week. He is visiting his Grandma this week and she has him walking and slowly jogging. He called me last night to let me know that he had jogged twice yesterday! I am so happy that he is back to normal and can start training again.

Eldest stopped by with a GLUTEN FREE salmon salad for ME! Yay! I was starving! You would think being a hospital that they would have GF food. They don't! lol It was hard because me and Mr. Screaming Meme were taking turns staying with him during the day...and of course Mama spent the night with him through out his stay...The last night, Middle came up and spent the night with us too! lol We looked like we had a party by morning! lol :D

Baby was being a goof ball...I think he was sick of me taking pictures of him! lol

The love of brothers...beautiful!

The last morning...Middle sprawled out from a night of no sleep...who really sleeps in hospitals? No one! lol

I learned from this experience...As I try to do with all my experiences in life...that family always seem to come together when you need them most and that bonds are stronger than we think they are...I love my boys and I am so proud to call them mine. Have you ever experienced something stressful and realized that underneath the stress and grief...there was a gift? It is a beautiful thing to witness!

Here are a few that I proposed....

JCPenney's has great choices and prices...so I always start here for a budget minded client...She is thinking she wants a pattern, but one that is muted and soft...and will blend well with the existing furniture and accessorizes...Or maybe a solid with texture...we are open to whatever we find...we seem to be on the same wave link...Great minds think a like...Love that!

JCP's Deanna Thermal Floral Pinch-Pleat Panel...classic, casual yet, has a little sophistication, as well...They come in chestnut (shown), desert rose, and lapis blue...I love the chestnut...and Mrs. C. does too...We are still deciding what will be better for her space pattern or a solid...

JCP's Jewel Tex III Pinch Pleat Panel ....Green Clay, Tawny Brown, Spice, Jet Black...Simple...the pleats are great...and texture galore!!! She loves the spice...I do too....Here is Spice....

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Class

I am crazy busy with work this week...slipcovers, clients and my own home...I even hired a maid because I am so busy...I think that will help me a bunch! She will come twice a month to get the deep cleaning done...Yay! Help is on the way!

My Magical Summer Display

I have to say. I love my summer display this year...It is simple...I added all the things I love...my vintage picnic basket...Red and white ticking...White dishes...

Black and white photos of my family...My favorite glass pedestal...One of my favorite silver clocks I collect...An old bottle I collected along the way...And my favorite red faux flowers...Oh, and plastic silver forks that I kept as a memory of a fun lunch I had with my family, not too long ago...

Simple...yet it says so much...Displays can be of anything...and you can display them any which way you choose...If you dare to take the risk to decorate with things you love...You may come up with something magical...something that uplifts and inspires you...something that makes you smile...Isn't that what decorating is all about? The feeling it creates inside of you?

I chose to tuck my display in my vintage picnic basket...even though you can't see everything immediately...The magic of peeking in to see the treasured pieces is so magically to me...

Each time I pass by my summer display, I smile...I smile because it is a reflection...

A reflection of moments...A reflection of things I love and because it is a reflection of me...

It is a sign to slow down, take a breath and enjoy this summer as though it were the last...

Last chance to say what it is that makes life so beautiful...without even having to say a word... We don't know our path or if tomorrow will ever come...So let's treasure this moment that we know we have for sure and celebrate the simple beauty we have all around us...

So, what would you display...if you threw caution to the wind and just decorated for you?

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Tutorial {Part 1}

Okay we are going to start off with the red one...:) The color is Annie Sloan's Emperor's Silk...I love this red with the dark wax or without...without the dark wax, it would be a brighter red...You would just wax it with clear wax...

The first tip that Michelle @ Wonderfaux Studios gave us may surprise you...The older your AS chalk paint the thicker it will be...the thicker it is...the more it will look like the red and the cream practice boards, the cream was very thick, look at the cream practice board here ....It is okay to leave your lids loose, ladies (and gentlemen), because the air will thicken it up...If you don't like that look, by all means close them tight...But this is good for us lazy painters...Michelle said this is girl's paint...lol I loved that...Because there is no failing with this stuff!

And I can finally look at Mr. Screaming Meme and say ..."You are wrong! I know what I am doing here..." Yay! lol He is an expert at so much, especially when it has to do with painting and construction...but I am patiently waiting for him to say in a deep, concerned voice..."You need to close that paint can properly, Meme"...and I will just refer him to this post...As Charlie Sheen would say..."I'm winning!" lol Annie Sloan, you are a genius and I HEART you for making girly girl paint! ;)

I suggest that you paint the pieces you want perfect when you first get your can of paint and then you paint the pieces you want a little more rustic or layered (like the cream I showed you) later...Or if you only want the rustic look...open the can and loosely close it for a week or so and tada...you will be set! You can always add water to thin it out, as well...So, no worries...

Okay, here is the red practice board I did...You want to literally paint heavily and thickly with your brush...see how thick I painted here? {Tip the red has a lot more pigment and will need a longer drying time...}

Once it is dry you can add your wax...I suggest that you go over it with clear wax first and then brush the dark wax on...(remember little goes along way) To make sure to get the look I showed on Monday you need to use the dark wax with brush strokes across the piece...highlighting the raised molding and designs of your piece...and then adding the dark wax were you think it will look best...You are the artist here...One of my classmates took a tool and gouged the practice board...so I did it too...and once you go over it with the dark wax, it will darken that area...You can always let your piece dry, sand it down and start again...No failing, Just WINNING! ;) Yay!

Once you are done, you can buff it when the wax is not tacky anymore...And that is where the magic happens...

I will be posting more how to's that I learned...but I promise taking a class from Michelle or someone who knows the tips and tricks...is the way to go!

{Teen Rooms}

I am super busy with work, remodeling, and redecorating "Middle's" (my name is my middle son...lol) room...Here are a few pics of the process...It is so sad and a little abusive to leave Middle's room like this for...Oh, a little over a month!!!! I know, I know...You should call Child Protective Services on me...I am a bad Mama...;) lol I have been busy and I thought I would get to it...and then life happened...end of school, work and a little procrastination too boot! Hate me!

This room is usually more organized and tidy...Middle is actually one of my best cleaners/organizers I own...I mean have living here...lol...but I think when things are in limbo or out of place...it is never easy to keep tidy...You know what I mean? Maybe a little depressing or a little overwhelming is the word? Do you see that paint can? It sat there for a month...Well, it got moved around for vacuuming and a little horseplay...But it sat in that area...waiting for the "decorator" to get there...Haha! Someone needs to fire her, huh? Or pay her? I don't know which one? BTW, Middle put this shelf in the closet for organization...I was going to donate it...I love how he thinks...my little organizer!

Do you see the stripe under the primed wall? I painted that for him about 4 years ago...Okay, a little tip for you...remember when painting a kid's room, to think about them actually growing up...They do grow! Shocking, I know! lol So, I wish I had thought about it and realized I would have to repaint more sooner than later...

I finally walked passed his room on Sunday and thought you are a horrible mother/decorator if you don't get that paint out and JUST DO IT! So, the guilt trip I played on myself worked!!! Yay!!!! I love when that happens! LOL I just started painting and painting...and before I knew it I had painted two coats!

I was so proud of myself, I even decided to have a margarita towards the end of the process to celebrate...I headed to my "Old Saloon" in our gameroom and mixed one up! I am a pretty good bartender, if I do say so myself...It is convenient to have a Saloon at arm's reach, too...Though I only have a drink or two a month, I mean, week...To keep this girlish figure I got going on lol...I feel like it is Happy Hour whenever the mood hits...lol And I don't have to even get all dolled up! I'm brilliant for building a Saloon in my home...Just pure brilliance! Lol!!!

The paint color is Valspar 5006-1B Notre Dame....It is a gorgeous grey...with a hint of blue...I love how it looks...both morning and night...And it looks great with warm colors, too...

Okay, I am even more of a horrible Mama for shopping the "Eldest's" room for decor...lol I took this art off his walls, like thief in the night...I sure did! I decided to use it here because I loved how the art popped against the grey walls! I promised Eldest that I would get him an even better piece of art...So now I have that on my "Ever Screaming To Do" list...:) I think he didn't really mind...He wasn't attached to it...and he knows I always come through with my promises...especially in the decorating department...lol

See the warm colors pop! I love this art...I purchased it last year at Home Goods for $50 on sale...I am using some dark bamboo shades with some white curtains I got for free from Mama Law (my mother in law)...

Here is a peek at his new room...We purchased the sofa (futon) last year for $399 @ Walmart.com and picked it up at the store...I was not a fan of futons...But the Middle bugged me about it until I just gave in...I liked this one because looked decent and was comfortable...I think teen rooms should be more about them and their likes...You slowly have to start letting go of your pipe dream and let their taste evolve. It also is a way for them to express themselves more...Middle picked the color (he did fabulous, huh?) and the futon...agreed on the art and blinds...We are looking for a desk...preferably the armoire style...So we can close the mess and have peace...:) The lamp may stay in here, as well...I stole that from another room too...That table I dug out of my neighbor's trash...{Hi, Michella...I am the creepy neighbor who digs through your crap late at night!} We may be painting it...and adding hardware...More to come on middle's new room...

Annie Sloan Chalk Paint Class {Sneak Peek}

I attended a Annie Sloan class @ Wonderfaux Studios this past Saturday! If you live in or around the Houston area, YOU need to take a class! I learned so much! I am so grateful for the experience and I enjoyed my classmates and my "Wonderfaux" teacher and new friend, Michelle. We have a lot in common and she let me crack my jokes and even laughed! :) Lol!

She is a talented and creative woman with a thriving business to match! I am super excited that she is bringing Annie Sloan Chalk Paint to the NW area of Houston. It is quite the drive for those of us over here! She is renting a booth at Antique Gallery and will be opening soon! So look for her! She will be renting next to one of my friend, Michella from The Gypsy Caravan too! Small world it is, even in Houston!

Here are my projects from my class! I am going to be sharing more about how I got each look...so stay tuned for that! I wanted to show you all how "wonderfaux" they turned out! I have looked at them million times and probably drooled all over them, as well...I have showed Mr. Screaming Meme and my 3 Screaming Boys...a million more times and I get the impression they may be tired of seeing them...I guess I can start on all my neighbors and FB friends...poor souls won't know what hit them...lol

I am proud and excited and I will be taking more classes from Michelle and her AWESOME crew! I will be a die hard Wonderfaux Crony, peep and studious student! She teaches an array of classes and I plan on attending all of them!

Okay here are my practice boards...This was my first try and I think they turned out wonderful! It was easy and anyone can do this! I promise!

Paloma and Provence...waxed with clear and lightly with dark wax over the clear...

Versailles...waxed with both clear and dark wax...This looks like a brown mustard in person...

Emperor's Silk with clear and dark wax...I love the red...waxed or not...gorgeous!

Cream with clear and dark wax...Beautiful isn't it? I am most proud of this one...I love the layered effect! I will post more on how to's soon...

I wish it was this Texas Ranch! But I won Anita's Giveaway @ Cedar Hill Ranch. Cedar Hill Ranch is one of the prettiest place in Texas, I quite sure. A place I know that her and her family treasure...a place that shares wonderful memories of a life that is a little slower...a place to be able to take off your boots and kick your feet up...Oh, I wish that someday my family can have that same dream...You are a lucky girl, Anita! And by the way you decorate and make a house a home...I know you know how lucky you are!

A Furniture Redesign, Clients And A Sneak Peek!

I have been a busy girl lately! I have a few clients I am working with. A few furniture redesigns and a gorgeous home I am styling. Here is one of my furniture redesigns. A toddler bed...

It was a plain, old honey oak toddler bed. I used Annie Sloan's Old White Chalk Paint with Annie Sloan's clear and dark wax. I loved how beautiful it turned out.

My client was beside herself when she saw it! That makes all the work worth it! That is my favorite part of my job, even more than my paycheck...really! :)

She is using it for her son's room, which is decorated beautifully. And she shared a secret with me...she is pregnant with baby #2! And she has asked that I paint her baby furniture! And I gladly said YES! :)

I love when I hear someone else is pregnant...it instantly brings me back to my experience of being pregnant with my boys. I was the type who loved being pregnant! It was a beautiful experience for me.

I wish her the best pregnancy and birth...and I will be ready to paint that furniture once we figure out what she is having! A girl? A boy? It doesn't matter...she or he will be loved and treasured, I am quite sure!

I am so excited about the giveaway today. I will post the winner tonight! I wish everyone good luck! I am off to shop window treatments for the home I am styling! I have really loved working with this client. She is refreshing and fun! And her Mama, who is 92 (though looks 7o something) is a hoot and a breath of fresh air!

She lives with my client and her husband. Such a great family! Those are always the best to work with and even better to become friends with! I seem to always have luck with meeting clients who end up as friends! Another benefit to my job! :)

Here is a peek at a piece of furniture we moved to the hall...We are making a gallery wall with antique mirrors and old family photos! And look at that antique typewriter...I love that piece the most! Heck, I love a lot of her pieces! I will be sharing more of her lovely home as we go!

Slipcovers, Swirling, and Hoarding , Oh My!

I finally finished six slip cover orders and had four picked up yesterday! It was a little hard to let one of them go...How can I get away with keeping it?...lol That was what I was thinking yesterday! ;)

It is a fun chair...It swirls around and around! And makes me feel like a kid again! I remember my Great Grandma Meme had one that swirled...and I loved it!

{Please excuse the lamp with no lamp shade...another "baseball" accident, I am quite sure...Oh, the life with boys is filled with surprises! That shade was made of stained glass and was a special gift from Mr. Screaming Meme...But a miracle happened...it is fixable...Life is truly good, huh?}

GOOD!!!!

Ahh! Life is good {and fun}, isn't it?...if we stop and play with life a little more...so swirl, dance and be silly...no one is watching...Well, not if you don't post it all over your blog...Nope...No one has to know if you dance and sing...leap, skip...or swirl around...just to feel the butterflies in your tummy once again! That is what curtains {and locks} are for...:) So, play with life...It is patiently waiting!

Yesterday was a fun day for me...I have been so busy with work...I finally had some time to myself...Well, an hour or so...But it was MY hour and I did what I do best...shopped! ;) I went to Goodwill & Target...I got a little annoyed at GW by some crazy old lady...She was very pushy {literally} and a little out of control...So much so I think the whole store was staying clear from her...It looked like she had had 9 cups of coffee or maybe on crack, I don't know the difference between the two? :D

But hey, she bought $150 worth of furniture...I know that because I bravely stood behind her in line...ready to karate chop her, if need be...I don't think her husband was very impressed...He LOUDLY confessed that they had a barn full of furniture that she will never fix or get to...and sadly, she doesn't sell any of it...It is stuff she wants to use herself...So, I guess she is a hoarder or something...Which is not funny...or is it? No, It isn't...hoarding is a horrible disease and one I try to remember when the deals are just too good...I literally have to stop myself...remind myself of the show, "Hoarders" and just walk away...I will only buy things I know I will be able to get to in a month...And if I don't...I sell it as is...Because that show scares me that much! haha! NOT kidding! I did buy four old farm house chairs at GW yesterday...that I will be keeping (I will post about them later this week).

So, I headed to Target and ended up buying the Shabby Chic Linen Duvet in robin's egg blue...I love the feeling of linen through my fingers, don't you? And the robin's egg blue is a perfect blue, I must say...I actually am returning it because I want something a little different and I may be the only one to be able to do that...I seem to never be able to get away from my sewing machine, Ole' Bessie Girl...She works harder than most sewing machines! And I am so hard on her! lol

Okay, back to my swirl chair, I mean my clients...hehehe ;)...originally I hated that chair...I thought it was going to be the hardest slip cover because of the odd shape and attached pillow...I worked with it and came up with a way for her to shine again...My client has a set...so, I made two slips...They were her grandma's chairs...I guess all grandmas have swirly chairs...Well, it is fitting...Grandmas are FUN! ;)

I added some piping and few ruffles...

And made ribbon ties for the closure in the back...I think it adds charm to this ole' chair, what do you think?

I double knotted the ribbon ties to give it more structure...So, remember that if you have a slipcover that has ties....It helps give them more form...

Oh, darn it...I totally forgot to get a before picture...And my client was due any minute...so, I snapped a sexy leg picture right before she pulled up! At least I have that...LOL! I need to remember that!

So, a recap...swirl more, life is good, stay away from Crazy Ole' Ladies, don't be a hoarder and take an hour and just be YOU! It is priceless! Life is waiting...go play!

A Before And After

I fluffed a little this past weekend...in between sewing slipcovers for a client and getting "My Baby" ready for a dance {he looked so handsome}...I call it multitasking...Others may call it ADD... l say potatoe, You say potahto! ;)

It is so hard to get a good shot above the cabinets..it took my 30 minutes to get this one...lol...because I don't have a great camera {okay, a better camera...because I am grateful for what I have {always}), my ceilings are 10 foot and the lighting in the kitchen is fluorescent...which needs to be addressed, as well...slowly but surely we chug along...

I am not a big fan of stuff above cabinetry...I say the less the better...But my space above the cabinets are soo big I have to. If I were going to live here longer, I would get custom cabinets put in and bring it up to the ceiling or at least close to. But I am not going to be here that long and the value of the house is not worth doing it. I have thought about adding height to it like The Lettered Cottage did here ...Which is totally doable!

I also plan on painting the {ugly...I mean,} honey oak cabinets...maybe with Annie Sloan Chalk Paint {Old White}. I also want to talk Mr. Screaming Meme into adding some beadboard to the kitchen walls...just on that wall above the cabinets and one on the other side...not all the way around the kitchen...It will have depth and character...and tie in well with the built in hutch we created....

{Before}....Well, since I showed it last...;)...I change my decor a lot...My MIL {Momma Law} hates to visit because it is different every time she comes...Hey, I am a designer, after all...I have to create, change & evolve...That is what designers and decorators do, right? ;)

Okay, I found this old frame last week @ Goodwill...I loved it and knew I would paint over the artwork with chalkboard paint...It was a little tarnished and discolored...so I cleaned it up a little and refinished it with Stencil Magic Paint Creme...Wonderful stuff! Used it on this project , as well!

{After}...
I just rubbed it on in circles with a stencil brush...It really made a world of difference, huh?

I need to paint one more coat of chalkboard paint...I will add that to my list for next weekend!

Collections From My Heart....

Collections...I love collecting things that mean something to me...Some of my favorite collections are white dishes, books, clocks, keys, old photos, canes, umbrellas...

Decorate With Meaning...I decorate with things that have meaning to me and my family...For instance, I am a proud Texan...I try to bring things in that remind me to be grateful of that...I don't have cowboys and spurs everywhere...I like to bring in subtle things that interpret Texas...:) Stars and Rustic accents...A few good examples are my Old Saloon Bar in my game room and an old potting bench I found in Mr. Screaming Meme's home town...It is "concocted" out of old pieces of farm homes and furniture in the area...I loved it sooo much, I made him load it up on our old SUV and drive it a million miles back home, in a wind storm...lol BECAUSE it had meaning to me...and represented our past, present and future all in one!

The old trunk was a piece I had found many moons ago in Amarillo, TX...I was surprised because it had my father's initials CLP on the side! I knew it was meant to be mine...I used it as a coffee table, end table, a bench and at the foot of my bed...

Oddly that old, beat up trunk fit into the potting bench I drug home! It was a perfect fit! Like it was meant to be...I still get choked up, if I think about the symbolism of it...In life, we are all trying to match up and connect, as best as we can...and there are moments and connections in life that are magically right and perfect...Like it was always meant to be...

White Touches...I try and bring a lot of it in to my design through pillows, slip covers, white quilt (on my bed), dishes, platters, frames and such...I think white calms the design down...So you may have outrageous decor and furnishings going on and the white balances it all out...so you can appreciate that wild, outrageous piece more...

Let's Have A Garden Party!

I have an old iron chair I found at an estate sale. "She" had all the right curves, but she looked a little pitiful sitting all by herself in the corner! lol! All she needed was some good ole' TLC and to be dolled up a little! So with a little imagination, paint and a sewing machine, I got to work!

I added a touch of french...a sprinkle of shabby...and a little bit of a garden chic to the design...and this is what I came up with! A french garden chic occasional chair...She could be used in the home...a feminine office/study, perhaps? A beautiful garden inspired boudoir (bedroom)?...Ohh la la! ;) Or as an accent/occasional chair in any living space!

But wouldn't be fun to add her to your back porch or even use her in your next garden party? She is all dressed up with a party dress! Lol! A little unexpected surprise and a little whimsy always makes for a great party or a nice, relaxing place to retreat...Don't you think?

I have to admit...I love her soo...I have moved her everywhere I could think of...But sadly, my home is too small! :( So, she is going to a new home...I am sure a quite beautiful one, too! She is painted, distressed and dressed! Ready to be loved & used...& maybe a little abused! ;) The more chips, nicks, and booboos she has...the more beautiful she will become!

Letters From My Heart: {To My Beautiful Mama & Gram}

Happy Mother's Day to all of you! This is my Mother's Day Tribute to the two best Moms in the world! Here is my story in letters straight from my heart...

My Mom is the little girl in my Screaming Meme header...Her name was Betty Sue...She was a wife, a mother of 6, an artist, dreamer, an entrepreneur and she hung the moon in my eyes. I was the last of 6 children...it was a very hard time in their life. My father was very ill and my mother had no choice but to do what was best. I was raised by her mother and father, my grandparents...I was blessed to still be a part of their lives...through visits and letters...and a bond that could never break.

Letters From My Heart...

Dearest Mama,

I miss you, Mama...and still have the strong need to know you better, hold you closer and make you proud of me...I feel your presence the most when I create something...I love that we were both artists and dreamers...that is "my" connection... to you...I miss your beautiful laugh and how you were so fun to be around...You were truly magical to me...

She was and still is the most beautiful woman in the world to me...I would sit and just stare at her... hoping that I would be that beautiful when I grew up!

You made me feel like I was a gift, out of the sorrow of having to let me go...It took me a long time to see the big picture and understand that I was where I was suppose to be...Gram and Papa were your gift to me...I was able to do and learn so many things I would not of, had I stayed with you (though that hurts to even say)...they were the rocks I needed to thrive and be the person I am today...

There was always something magical about being in her arms...the world just melted away...and it was only her and I! A mother's bond is deep...even when you are separated...I can still remember how good that felt!

Papa was my hero and best friend... a great role model for a little girl to have...Gram was/is my best friend and secret keeper...She always let me be me, with a gentle push in the right direction...though, deep in the corners of my heart...it still hurts that I didn't know you like my siblings...I know one day we will have our chance...until then...Mama, I love you more than I could ever express...I am proud to be Betty Sue's daughter and your princess...thank you for giving me a chance to become who I was meant to be...and thank you for the memories we shared together...I hold them close to my heart...

My Mom passed away suddenly, when I was 18 years old. I still miss her like it happened yesterday. There is not a day that goes by that I do not think about her, talk to her and try and emulate her big heart and free spirit!

Me and my Gram...the first day of school. This is my favorite photo of us together. I was skipping through most of my childhood...a truly happy little girl. She is a wonderful woman, who gave me a life that most could only dream of...

Dearest Gram,

Gram, thank you....thank you for being my bestest friend and partner in crime...for guiding me to who I am today. Thank you for the long talks and always being on the other end of the phone...when I needed you most.

Thank you for letting me ...be "me"...That little girl who thought she could truly be anything that she put her mind to...and for letting me pretend to be Little Orphan Annie...letting my wear my wig and dresses everywhere (even in the grocery stores...lol)...You watched all of my talent shows and cheered me on (without laughing in front of me)...making me believe I could really sing and dance...

I truly believed I could be Little Orphan Annie...Sadly, I walked around like this...with a lot of pride! ;) I even drew freckles on my cheeks with my Gram's brown eye liner...It was a great time in my life!

You and Papa let my imagination go wherever it wanted to and supported me and my dreams...even when you knew they may never come true...you never let me know that...

This my my Gram and my hero, Papa...They were truly in love and made everyday a happy one...They loved me to their core and they made sure I knew it! I am truly grateful for that love and I make sure to pass that love on to my loved ones...

Because of you...I "still" believe I can do anything I put my mind to...You believed in me...you supported me and you built me up. And never let me fall...You stood by me when no one else had the courage to...and when I made mistakes...you and Papa were the only ones standing there beside me...

Me and my cousin, Missy having a sleepover...notice the cut off feet on my pj's...I hated the feeling of those things on my little feet! Thank you, Gram for always making me more comfortable! She hated having to cut those off, though! lol

You are more than my best friend...Your my mother, my cheer leader, my teacher, my counselor and my secret keeper....you were everything I needed to be the women I am today!

Me and Gram in Annapolis, Md. She always made sure I was dressed up. I still love to dress up to this day!

So, thank you from the bottom of my heart...I know that I will never know a greater friend than I had in you...So, all I can do is pay it forward...emulate and mirror who you were to those closest to me...In that I know you will never die...only live on through me...

Chairs Galore...

I have found a few chairs that I am going to try to incorporate into my home. If they don't make the cut. They will be sold to Craig, you know, the guy with all those lists! ;) I am hoping they work, though. I need chairs to be able to finish a few rooms. I am pretty sure the french chair will be great as a vanity chair or a side chair in my romantic garden inspired boudoir.

French chair {after}: Painted Martha Stewart's Robin's Egg Blue & Valspar's Sugar & Cream and glazed with Briwax Light Brown.

Briwax is a great product to use...painted or wood...On painted pieces, uses as a glaze to age the look of the furniture and to protect it from elements.

The 2 schoolhouse chairs will be tested in my Old Saloon Gameroom. I will mix a few more odd chairs for a laid back Saloon-y feel. I may even paint numbers on the backs for a little more fun and whimsy. I have an antique table that belonged to my mother, when she was a newly wed. She passed away when I was a teenager. I inherited it in 2006 from my Great Uncle. It means so much to have a piece of her furniture. Since, furniture and design is my passion. It hasn't been used in my home, yet. So, I have decided to use it as a game table for family games and my crafting. It is an oak table, I do plan on staining it darker or painting it.

Schoolhouse chairs {after}: Restore A Finish in dark walnut...I bought it at Home Depot.

I am the world's worst about getting before photos. I promise that I will practice learning that one. It is fun to see the before and afters...I have some that are more like "during or after"...lol

The lighter chair is a before and the darker one is the during. I added a few coats of the Restore A Finish to achieve the shade I wanted. I used a lint free cloth to rub it on. Super duper easy!

French chair {during}: I lightly sanded the finish and had already taken the tapestry fabric off and had started painting it. That is Emily (Emme) , our 1 1/2 yr old golden retriever. She and the two other girls, Charlee Girl and Bella, are like our babies... She is a lot of help, can't you tell? ;)

French Chair {during}: Before I added the Briwax to tone down the brightness of the paint. I actually waited a few days for the paint to dry completely.

Confessions & Real Life

Life is full of surprises... Some good, some bad and some just plain ole' ugly! ;) I had a little of all three last weekend!

I went to a garage sale next door on Saturday. I hadn't planned on getting out of the house...Well, mostly because my hair was sticking up everywhere and I had make up running down my face from the night before. Which is usually not like me, I am usually good at washing my face and pulling my lovely lady locks back for a good night's sleep and a easy morning...Nothing worse than being startled at your own image in the mirror, am I right? Lol!

Okay, so I got lazy and had sniff way too many fumes the night before and maybe had a glass or three of wine too boot! Hate me! ;) Probably not the best idea to of locked myself in the garage with paint & stain fumes & wine. ;) What a party, I tell you! You missed out on a lot of fun!

I was working on my french chair and 2 schoolhouse chairs I had found at my local thrift store a few weeks ago. I was having a ball! Talking to my BFF with my phone tied around my head, sipping wine and painting away! You know you all have concocted your cell phones around your head...right? We all do it...right??? ;) I usually act like I just washed my hair...I twist my towel on top of my head and tuck my cell phone in...lol I actually do think I really am getting away with something! If you are my neighbor and are lucky enough to catch me in the act, you have seen me dodge you...as I am running to the mailbox or to car to grab something. I do act casual and stay calm, turning my head ever so slightly...so you can't see the cell phone hanging out....lol hahahaahaa!...Sometimes I like to get fancy and wrap a pretty scarf around my head tightly and tuck it in...That is usually only when I have guests or feeling kinda' pretty! :) lol

Tape? I never thought of that one! I'll add that to my emergency hands free concoction list!

So, anyway I was planning on finishing up my projects and fluffing my nest a little. But I looked out the window and saw a garage sale going on next door...I spotted a huge, crazy piece of something that looked like it was up my alley...all chippy, rusty, and old...Dang it, I hate when this happens! I panicked...Do I risk letting the world seeing me this way? All for a garage sale and a possible crazy piece of junk? And then I had a weird thought pop into my head...I thought thank goodness I am not famous, I would be the one you see on the cover of those horrid magazines! I always feel so bad for those girls...even though I am glad they are normal and from this world. ;) So, I ran to my bathroom and washed my face and put my rat's nest of hair in a hat and a sweet little sundress to look like I was planning on being so what productive...I mean it was 10 am by then! lol I actually pulled myself together very quickly. Which is good to know for other emergencies, such as this.

I walked leisurely over. I didn't want them to think that I had my eye on something. I circled around this crazy piece of something...I thought what is it? Then it hit me...It was vintage bird cage! They wanted $15 for it...As I looked away and around to make sure there wasn't any other vultures lurking...I pretended to be looking at something else...And then like the angels singing down from heaven...I heard a soft voice..."We can go lower"...Lower, I thought?...I would of actually paid more for this crazy piece of something...It was a voice of a niece of my elderly neighbors...Yes, I prey on the elderly, okay?...I mean come on, it was a garage sale! lol I went over to talk to my neighbors about this bird cage...She said she had bought it 43 yrs ago on their honeymoon. My heart dropped and I got all mushy...I hate when that happens at garage sales...lol I said.."Well, I have to have it...what a beautiful story!" I paid full price because of that story, well actually $13...because I was a little short on cash...

Yes, life is full of surprises. I loved that Saturday, I ended up finishing my chairs and fluffing my nest...but best of all, I heard a beautiful love story about two lovebirds beginning their lives together! I will always remember it when I look at my $13 bird cage...

I will be showing off my chairs tomorrow...Now, I am off to find my favorite towel and my cell phone and call my BFF!

My Baby & Very Own Robert Pattinson

Every mother thinks their kiddos are the most beautiful, most talented and basically, the cream of the crop. But I know mine are. lol

This is My Baby. He seems to have it all. Looks. Athletic Ability {okay, He's an All Star;)}. Brains. Humor. And did I mention he is My Baby? ;) He is a perfect reflection of what I always longed to be. I sometimes ask myself..."Self?" ..."Yeah", I say..."How did you make such great kiddos?"... "Well, self...It is a combination of hard work, luck and genes" lol...

Yes, I am lucky. But it isn't because he is so darn beautiful. ;) It is because of who he is in the inside. His heart is BIG. He has dreams so BIG, I want to dream them with him. He still tells me that I am beautiful....and that he wuvs me! He laughs at all my jokes and we have our own inside jokes. We are two kids when we are together. I overheard him and his friends, the other day, say how cool I was. Little ole' me...Cool? Oh, shucks! I love that he still thinks I am the bomb! Because, I think he is, too!

I am so proud of all my kids. I have three young men. Three beautiful gifts. My three legacies. My most precious gifts to this world. Each have something so extraordinary and beautiful to share. Today I celebrate My Baby...I LOVE YOU! I am SOOO PROUD of you and I think you are destined for GREATNESS! I will be on the side lines, as I always have been...Cheering you on and being your BIGGEST FAN!

I saw "Water For Elephants" on Monday with Mr. Screaming Meme. I was so excited! I love Reese Witherspoon...and well, Robert Pattinson had me at first bite...;) lol He had me most of all because he reminds me of My Baby. The whole time in the movie. I thought I was watching My Baby as an adult. Bitter sweet, I must say. I couldn't get it out of my head. I ran home and pulled a picture up of Robert...and showed him. He says he doesn't see it. But I do...:) I, of course, think my very own Robert Pattinson is MORE beautiful. But every Mama would say that, now wouldn't they...;)

For we know our children are our legacy and our gift to this world. They are all beautiful and special. Celebrate YOUR children. Make them understand how IMPORTANT they are. And that they changed your life, your path...for the better.

PS...BTW, I loved the movie...though I hated the abuse of the animals, especially Rosie, the elephant. It was hard for me being such a big animal lover to watch. I jumped and closed my eyes a lot. :( It was a great reflection on how the circus life was back then. You really thought you were on the train with them, living the circus life. It was a beautiful love story. And a great ending! Go see it!

Creative Ways To Use Burlap & A How To Guide

I HEART Burlap...It brings texture and warmth to a room like no other material...I have made curtains, table cloths, covered walls, used it in all my Halloween, fall and Winter decorating... The creamy colored burlap is an excellent choice for those who want the texture...but don't want to darken the space...They have reds, blacks, greens, blues, neutrals, and creams...a color for every taste... I am drawn to the neutrals and creams...They calm the soul and have a restful feel to them...Here are some pictures of a neutral burlap on the walls... You can use glue, staples or nail heads or a combo of them to quickly get the job done...If you want to glue it to the wall...make sure to find a glue that will not discolor the burlap...

Screaming Meme's Burlap Wall Tips:

Start at the top, pull tight and staple at the bottom...secure in the middle...

Be careful with the staples, you don't want to see too many of them...For the most part they will not be seen...they should blend in...

Don't use burlap near water or steam...It will discolor...A natural discoloring may occur...It is normal...It adds character...Don't if you don't like it...It is so easy to change out...

Overlay the burlap as you go...about an inch or two over the other will work...

Have fun designing your wall...you can make a wainscoting, a full accent wall or go all the way...with a fully wallpapered burlap room...Walls are not your thing?...Use burlap in other ways...curtains, slip covered ottomans, pillows, bed skirts, table linens, piping for furniture, pillows, bedding and such...Use it to stage your home for parties, holidays and get togethers ! Use the burlap webbing to accent chairs (like the chair I made below), bulletin boards, pillows, accents rugs, and anything else you can wrap that stuff around!

The best part about burlap is it is cheap and easy to redo! So, have fun and get creative!

Mirror, Mirror On My Bathroom Wall...

We all have or have had the dreadfully massive sheet of mirror glass in our bathroom. There is a clever way to change that! Framing the mirror without glue or nails, You can use the good ole' VELCRO!

For around $40 and a couple of hours of your time, your mirror can be transformed and add to your beautifully decorated bathroom without having to hire someone to make an expensive custom frame for you!

It is so easy and simple that you will want to frame every mirror you have and your neighbors too boot! LOL! You could have a lot of friends before this is over! ;) You will want to buy the square rosettes (see photos below for reference), so you don't have to do a lot of angle cutting. You can also cut angles or have someone cut the angles for you, if you don't like the rosette idea. But, by using the rosettes you can make a straight cut. Your local Home Depot or Lowe's will cut the straight cuts for you for free! Just take your measurements with you and ask for someone to help you in the lumber area.

If you are wondering how well Velcro will stick on a bathroom mirror, you will be pleasantly surprised! It will hold up for a very long time, even with the steam...GUARANTEED! :D

Make sure to purchase the Velcro with the sticky backs.

Keep the two sides of Velcro together and stick one side to your trim. Then peel off the paper and press your trim to the mirror.

Working your way around the mirror, until all the sides are done...

And there you have it. Your very own custom framed mirror that little ole' you made yourself!

I Fauxed...

I made a bouquet of wild (faux) flowers...I don't usually like faux flowers...But if they are done right, they can look beautiful! Who has the time and money to always have fresh flowers? It is okay to break the rules sometimes...And it makes you a rebel, anyway...

So stand up and say..."If I want to faux up my flowers...Dang it, I can!" ;)

I got my "fauxed up" flowers at Hobby lobby...On sale, 5 for $10 bucks...What a deal! lol

I got two different types of yellow "fauxed up" flowers...3 of one, 2 of the other...Duh? lol

I had this pitcher...I got it at Target for $15...I believe they are still there in the dish section...

I bent the flowers to fit the pitcher...I never cut mine...First, I am lazy and second, it helps to secure them in the pitcher or vase...And third, you can always unbend them and use them somewhere else...Ingeniously! ;)

Gussied Up...Screaming Meme Style

I made some pillows for my new sectional sofa...What do you think?
I plan on making a few more when I find the right fabric...
The sectional was a sofa that I literally drooled over for a year...
Yes, a whole year!...lol I am quite sure there are a few drool stains and
claw marks from me having to be drug off of her...

The know I was the talk around the water cooler at that furniture store...
A girl knows when she has found her soul sofa...Am I right, girls?
It was originally a little too expensive (okay A LOT)!...A little too steep for the
Ole' Screaming Memers budget...So I would visit her, when I
was in the neighborhood...I would plop down on her and take my sweaty
shoes off and wallow my feet all in her cushions...

(The small lamps I stole from my son's room...I have been out lamp shopping for weeks...I sure hope I find 2 matching lamps soon...Or Gussy Girl will be in the dark...lol My son has asked for them back ever so nicely...I don't think I can hold them for ransom much longer...lol )

I know it may sound weird....But I even think she may of lit up,
when I walked through the doors...Uh huh! Lit up like a Christmas tree, she did...:)
She had me at hello...

I even named her Gussy! Gussy is a cowgirl's
name...perfect for this sofa all decked out in nail heads and a warm, rustic
velvety microfiber and I could see her all "Gussied Up" with a white slip cover...Every
pretty girl needs a party dress, right? ;)

Anyone who reads this blog knows I name my most treasured pieces...
and rename people I love...
(I have even renamed a few of my blog friends along the way...
You know you are special to me, when I give you a name...right, Lou Lou?)

Even though she was not really mine...I still named her...Because she belonged to
me in my heart...I didn't even need to purchase her to feel that way...

So, one fateful day, I giddied up on in to see Gussy Girl...Only to find she was GONE!
Oh, my heart sank and I thought to myself...I should of saved up and bought her...
But I was too cheap to even do that...lol I just touched her and walked away...
No wonder she lit up...she probably thought to herself, "She will buy me this time...
She has had her sweaty feet in my cushions and even french kissed (drooled) me a few
times...She is here to take me home!"Only to be used and abused again...

I guess I am a player, huh? lol So I turned the corner only to see her in the clearance
section...What? She is marked down? Gussy? No body puts Baby, I mean Gussy
Girl, in the corner! (a quote from one of my favorite movies of all times, Dirty Dancing...lol) I quickly went over to see her worth...She was half off...
Though I didn't really have the money...I purchased her that fateful day...

So now she sits in my living room...She is wallowed in and loved on everyday by
all of the Screaming Memes in the house...and a few Screaming doggies, as well...

I have plans to slip cover Gussy in a white duck fabric and piping....I finally
got around to making some pillows for her...I thought the black and cream trellis
pattern would look great on her...:)...

And I even made her 2 robin's egg blue chenille pillows...She is sooo full of herself lately...lol She now is wanting a creamy fur pillow...What is next? Tattoos and ear gages? They grow up so fast...lol

The trellis pattern reminded me of the curvature on the top of the Alamo...I loved the modern take on that...Because Gussy Girl's arms have a modern feel...I wanted to do something that would tie the rustic and modern together...So it was a perfect choice, don't you think?

The robin's egg blue was a new color brought into the room...I have a lot of warm
colors...I wanted to add something unexpected and new...I have a few more tricks put my sleeve in this room...I hope you stop in from time to time to see my progress...:)

My Home...Okay...A Client's Home...;)

I love my client, Sharon and her beautiful home! It is a place I could see myself in...Perfect in every way...The details and love that they poured into building this home is unbelievable and breathtaking! The photos could never give this beautiful home justice...But I am going to share them with you anyway!

Here is a space we are working on right now...The dining room...

We added a beautiful french style mirror...and creamy white plates...we wanted it to be simple, yet beautiful! I call her style is Coastal Farmhouse Chic! I think we are on the right track...Don't you think?

I secretly want to dress all in black and sneak in there late at night to steal that mirror...But shhh!... I don't want her to ever know that...lol Just in case, that actually ever really happened...;) Though, I think their dog, Cooper, would make it too hard! ;)

Here are a few other spaces in her home...Some have been redone since I took these photos...and some are yet to be done...Sharon has wonderful taste and has made a house a home...I am quite sure that there will be beautiful memories made there...

She has since hung a beautiful abstract art above the fireplace...it is PERFECT!

She had a faux artist paint the built in hutch and the island in a beautiful robin's egg...In love with the color and the look!
We plan to play around with the accessories on the hutch! Fun!

I still get choked up when I am in this kitchen...it SCREAMS Meme...or I guess in this case, Sharon...lol I love the granite, the custom cabinets, white subway tile, and that stove...My goodness! It was a sad day when I had to go back to my builder grade kitchen...though, I am grateful for her (my kitchen)...I am working on dolling her up a little this fall...

I don't have a shot of the butcher pantry...BUT It is too die for! It is just off the kitchen...You can't see the fauxing on the island that good...But I promise it is perfect...:)

Okay, I am off to clean my kitchen and tell her that I am sorry for talking behind her back...;) Did you do anything fun or creative this past weekend? Did you see my faux cupcake I made my Aunt Cake? I tried to decorate a cupcake and gave up and used stickers and bedazzled the darn thing...Shhh! I think my family thinks I really decorated it...lol ;) Sneaky, huh? My true gift to Cake was my words and my staged vignette...

K.K's 1st Annual Kupkake Kook Off!

For those of you who follow me regularly...Remember that my family and I lost our Aunt K.K. (Aunt Cake) last Spring...Today is her birthday! Happy Birthday, Aunt K.K.!

Her daughter, Heather has had such a hard time with the loss of her Momma...
So my sister, Cass, came up with a great way to celebrate her life by having an
annual cupcake decorating party..."K.K.'s Annual Kupkake Kook Off" on Facebook!

This is my "kupkake" for my Aunt K.K. (Aunt Cake)...The clocks symbolize how the time flew by...

The bird symbolizes how she is free now...The photos symbolizes how we are all connected and how we always have the memories....

The kupkake symbolizes how K.K. was our Fashionista...how she traveled the world and had so many wonderful experiences!

Paris symbolizes the trip her and her only daughter, Heather took to Paris just to shop!

My sister, Cass, out did herself! We now dub her our "Cake Bossette"...;) This is Dumbo! Amazing, huh? I don't think she has ever designed a cake before...So talented! She attached a song from Dumbo by Bette Midler..."Baby Of Mine"...:( I cried like a baby! So perfect! Thank you so much, Cass!

Heather and her kids made these sweet "kupkakes"! Such a sweet way to celebrate their "Grandma Bean's" life!

Though, not everyone baked a K.K. Kupkake on Facebook...Some family members changed their profile picture to a photo of Aunt Cake...some wrote beautiful memories that they shared with her...We all got together virtually to celebrate a beautiful woman, who is truly loved...

A few words from loved ones...

My Uncle Kelly wrote...
I have always walked the line between good and bad my KK walked with me not because she was bad but because she would not let her little brother walk alone. She always watched over me. I know God made a special place for her and now she walks with him. I will try hard to be a better person so if I’m lucky maybe I to will walk with them. Love you and miss you.
Aunt Linda wrote...I remember how much she loved Heather. And how she was Kelly, Sue's and Mary's best friend. How much she loved the kids- all of them. But mostly I remember her smile.

Her daughter, Heather wrote...One in particular though was when I had Zach and she came and stayed and helped with everything. Especially the cleaning.. So when we got home with Zach, It smelled of bleach so strong that we couldn't breathe. I remember growing up how spotless she was and meticulous of how she cleaned too. She was just wonderful in all aspects.. I miss her tremendously..... ♥ ♥
my sister, Kate said...We all miss you Aunt KK...Mom and Ralph are so blessed to be spending this day with you. Just know, we are all taking good care of Heather... she is our heart!

I love you, Cake...I hope you know how much you are loved and missed! And how you touched all of our lives with your presence...Happy Birthday!

Open Your Eyes To Get Inspired!

Inspiration for decorating is all around us...If we stop and really look at the beauty that surrounds us...In magazines, online, store displays, on TV...whether it be a sitcom or HGTV...We can be inspired to break through and create a more beautiful space, if we just OPEN our eyes...

I am inspired by so many things...PB, Anthropologie, store displays...even the crazy and fun stores my sons' shop at...I love them all...because it widens my horizons and makes me want to break the mold and take it to the next level...

Here are some inspiring photos and my take on why they inspire me...I hope you get inspired and want to break your mold...Let's all take it to the next level and make our homes as beautiful and inviting as these lovely spaces...

I love to decorate with things I use...San Pellegrino bottles (we love this stuff...and the bottles are pretty enough to display), silverware, napkins...It makes a house feel warm and cozy...

Blow up something that makes you smile...A love letter, a piece of art your child made, anything that inspires you...I once cut out a vintage painting from a magazine and got it blown up and mounted on foam board...I framed it with a old frame...It was so beautiful and inexpensive to do!

I love the idea of using unlikely things to window treatments...You can use burlap and roll it up like a shade...The shutters here are so fun! Don't you think?

I love tall wainscoting...I think it adds character and charm to any space...I have a painted harlequin wainscoting in my entry that is tall...I think it breaks up my super tall entry and makes it more warm and welcoming...

I have always loved fun doors that surprise you...Whether it is a sliding door or a painted door with a pop of color...I think it is fun to incorporate into any space...

I love display walls...A place to hang treasures and old family photos...It is a fun way to show your favorite things off...

I love decorating with white plates...and adding real flowers makes it even more beautiful...

I love butcher block...It warms up a kitchen...Add it to an island or one side of the counters...

Did I say I loved white dishes...;) I love the idea of using a few old pitchers to house your favorite utensils!

I love the faux painted fireplace...it jumps out even more with white walls, huh? I love the striped woven rug and the old cabinet holding blankets...I love white quilts and that would be a fun way to display them!

Slip covers...I love them...I sew them and I can't get enough of them...:) I love the mirror collection on the stair wall...I love anything that you repeat over and over again...It makes an instant statement!

I love umbrellas, canes and anything that makes me feel la~tee~da...Again collecting and displaying in repetition makes an instant statement...(A FLEETING THOUGHT...I would love to wear old fashioned gloves and walk outside under a beautiful umbrella...I know...I think I was born in the wrong era...;)...Okay, on to the next photo)

Anything that is whimsical and makes me smile...I think this whale is so fun and makes you want to relax and enjoy yourself...Adding whimsy is so important in every home...

The old chalkboard...I love them...I think this is whimsical and easy to do! I am planning on making a huge leaning chalk board for my kitchen...I hope to have it done soon...Check back soon to see it!

I love the chandelier pendent in this entry...I think it makes the whole space...Think about adding one to your entry or dining space!

I am still am in love with this chair after all these years...And don't get me started on the ottoman slip cover! This chair was plain until she added a fabric bunched up behind the original buttons! Fun idea!

I love the idea of adding curtains in unexpected areas...Where can you add curtains in your home?

I love faux painted walls...It is a fun way to get the look of wallpaper without all the mess of changing it out when you are done! I am in love with padded or slip covered headboards...I am going to get rid of my beautiful cottage bed and do one of these as soon as I can...I HATE my foot board...It takes up too much space and I can't jump in and out of bed very easily...;) We went on vacation and stayed in a little cottage that had no foot board...I had soooo much fun running and jumping into bed...lol

Speaking of headboards...I love this mantle headboard! And the bedding is so beautiful and easy to recreate!

I love the simpleness of the entry...The wide framed mirror, which brings in more light...White walls, make it look so clean and refreshing...The cottage shade, so easy to do! The whimsical boots and flowers are the jewelry to this simple space!

I have a few simple ideas to make your house a home on a budget! They are quick and easy to do!

Lamps~ Change out your lamp shades with new ones! The drum shades can give any lamp a new look! If you don't have money to change out...think about a simple slip cover to change the look of your lamp...You can sew one or use no sew techniques...:)

In love with my lamp shades...I think they are so perfect...They will be staying!

Collections~ What do you have lying around your home that you can make into a collection?That is the easiest

way to add a WOW factor to your home! It could be plates, mirrors, children's wooden chairs,

canes, books...The possibilities are endless...

I am working on my layered plate collage...I am going to make a thick framed leaning chalk board to go
under my collection of plates...:)

A Place For YOU...We decorate for everyone else...Our family, our friends, our neighbors...

What about us? Find a place, that makes YOU feel relaxed...and add something that will make

you feel good when you are there...It could be your bedside, your porch or your bath...

Add a beautiful piece of art, a mirror, some flowers, or anything that makes you feel alive

and refreshed...

Home Is Where The Heart Is...

There is something magical about slip covering...It makes an old piece of furniture come back to life...Slip covers are easy to learn to do, if you give yourself a chance...And let your creativity guide you...I was surprised that I could do it! But I took a chance and learned something new...

It may not be slip covering for you...Maybe it is painting a piece of furniture a fun and unexpected color...Or learning to take professional photos to frame and display in your home...It doesn't matter what it is...It just matters that YOU believe in yourself enough to try! ;)

I slip covered this chair for a client...I have to say wing backs are harder than some of the other styles I have slip covered. But I loved the challenge! Though, my family would probably tell you that I lost sleep and sewed a few fingers together...lol

My slip covers are not perfect...But to me that is perfect...I love to see imperfect furniture... Life is not perfect, so why should our furniture be...I love furniture that looks like it has a history...a story...a place to call home...

Yes...You have probably come across a high society Chihuahua before...But, Bella is the cream of the crop...At least, in her own mind ;)...She plays us all with her pouty mouth and innocent eyes...She acts helpless...Like any damsel in distress would...I thought it would be fun to have a photo shoot...This is what happens when I have too much time on my hands...

This is Bella "Banks" ;)...Doesn't she look like an angel here?...She knows how to work that dress, honey! With the wind machine blowing, she gives the camera woman (me) the perfect shot...She could be the next Tyra Banks or Cindy Crawford for sure! Right?

Bella Banks is using her sexy pout here...This shot could easily be the next Cover Girl ad...I can see it now...Bella Banks is the "New" Cover Girl! I could be the Stage Mama...;)

She is using her girly innocence to sell that high end fur coat...She knows how to work the camera! She is "Glamour To The Bone", huh?

Okay, here you can tell that she needs her gourmet lunch...She is too famished to work...She will not give the camera woman any more of those "Glamour Shots" until she gets her sushi and perrier water...Super Models are such brats! I thought they didn't eat, anyway?

Okay, the sushi and perrier arrived...She is back to work...She is pretending to be a gorgeous damsel stranded in a snow storm..."Where are the wind machines? Dang it, I need WIND! How can I get the perfect shot without wind....Work with me, people! Work with me!!!" ;)

She gave up! She'll never make it in this business!!...

Screaming Good Ideas for Decorating

Decorating can be as easy....Start with the three things you need…Color, Style, and Formality.

Step 1~Color ~If you don’t already have a color scheme you love, find one in a book or magazine...A fun way to do this is to cut the pictures out and put them in a notebook or journel...

Review all the chooses you are attracted to and go with the one that draws you in the most... Still unsure? Pick your favorite color, plus white, never fail remedy I use on clients...

Step 2~Style...Name your style...This is an trick of mine...Maybe you know you love Country French,Farmhouse Style,or Shabby Chic. Or maybe you like a little of everything!

That’s ok, just make sure you give the room style a name that includes the feeling you want in the room....

For instance, I have a Rustic Farmhouse Cottage Kitchen. (I use rustic and farmhouse as a feeling as well as a visual clue!) Keep the feeling in the name, and you will pick the right style every time!

Finally, formality.... Know if you like a formal or informal room, formal being where things on both sides of the room match, or a more informal feel where you mix and match.

So my kitchen description would go something like this…I want an informal Rustic Farmhouse Cottage style kitchen full of creams, reds,blacks,greens and white. So every time I buy something, I know if it doesn’t fit in that description, it doesn’t fit period!

1~2~3...your done!

I am sooo glad to get back to blogging....I need to...for my heart's sake...I will start off by showing you my favorite photo of my Aunt K.K....I called her Cake....She was a beautiful spirit....So fun to be around...Her beauty and grace warmed so many hearts....This silly smile in this photo, made you feel like everything was going to be okay....;)

She helped raise me when I was a young girl...I remember watching her every move...She was always busy...I can still see her curling her long lashes with the eyelash curler...and dusting her beautifully kept home (the smell of lemons always reminds me of her), she loved tanning (she could of been the Bain De Soliel Model), she loved Coach purses and Lancome Makeup...

She moved to Saudi Arabia, when I was 6 or 7...She loved traveling the world...I remember one time, she and her only daughter, Heather, flew to Paris just to shop...She was my Fashionista...I looked up to her and thought she hung the moon...She was my "Go To Girl" for fashion, makeup, puberty and boys...She had a way to make you feel like everything would be okay...And she was right...Everything was always okay....;)

Cake, if you can hear me~I love and miss you so...You will always be my Cake...I am sorry that you were soo sick...It was hard to let you know my heart was breaking for you...I never would of imagined the end of your life to be such a struggle...I choose to remember you, when you were happy and full of life...I think that is how you would want it, too...I know you are at peace, so I am trying to be at peace, as well...Give a kiss to my Beautiful Momma and tell Papa, I miss him so....I know Heaven is more beautiful with such an angel like you....

Slip To My Lou

Here is one of the chairs I had slipcovered for Miss Jackie...I had a whoopsie with one of them...I found a small rip in the piping on the day I was suppose to deliver them...:( I don't know how it happened, but it did...It was probably fixable, but I had to make sure it was perfect for Jackie and her beautiful family...I am not one to take chances or throw something together...It has my name on it...And I have too much pride to not make it right! So I took it a part and started over...:)

I called Jackie to let her know what had happened and that I would deliver the settee and one of the chairs and deliver the other one later in the week...She kindly said not to make two trips...So, I am a busy little beaver...slipcovers, model home, and design consults...I love it!!! :) lol I am in my zone and feel sooo alive there!

Yesterday, I met with a new client, Christian, she was a delight! And her kiddos were sooo adorable! I wanted to take the baby home with me to add to my collection of kiddos and doggos ;)...I have a tendency to do that...lol I love babies! They make me laugh and bring me back to when my boys were young {bittersweet}...I spent two hours with her going over her blue prints and color choices...It was soo fun to help her dove in and get the "BIG" picture of how it will look and give her new ideas and suggestions to add to her already wonderful ideas...By the time I was done, you could see the confidence on her face...That is what makes my job so wonderful...Her home is going to be sooo beautiful! She has such great taste! I can't wait to see it complete!

Did anyone see Oprah yesterday? It was about dream jobs...I cried when Buddy from Cake Boss started crying about how proud his Dad would be...I completely got how he felt and know my Momma and my Grandfather {Papa} would be SOOO proud of my accomplishments! Yes, I am doing my dream job! I have to pinch myself and make sure I am alive...:) Yep, I am! lol

I am off to work on slipcover orders and take care of Bella, the chihuahua...She had her teeth cleaned yesterday and had a little scare...Her heart rate went low during the surgery (well, they put them asleep while they clean their pearlies)...and she had a reaction to the vaccinations she got...I was up with her all night...:( I was scared out of my mind...She is my baby...:) She is doing well this morning, but very drowsy from the allergy meds I gave her...

Slipcovered Settee

I am still alive over in Screaming Meme Land...:) I have been busy with slipcovers, a surprise visit from my sister and her baby, Maddox and a little bug that seemed to have me down for 4 days...I am feeling better! Thank you for the well wishes...I think they helped ;)...

Miss Jackie's settee was quite the handful or vice versa ;)...She was unruly to say the least...So much so that I had to name her...;) I named her, Abigail Van Bitchin'...yes, I said it...lol My Momma had a persian cat named that...Quite regal and beautiful, but she was a handful...just like my slipcovered settee...lol

Yes, I learned a lot of tricks from Abigail Van Bitchin'...and sewn a few fingers together in the process...actually through one of my nail beds and the side of one of my fingers...Just call me Meme Van Bitchin'...because I was...:) I cried a few times and laughed ALOT...

I had thought that the arms would be a snap and that I would have her all done in no time flat...lol Well, it took me a lot longer than I thought...BUT it was because I started the arms over and fiddled with her more than I should of...I am so bad like that...I want my work to be the best "I" can do...if I believe it can be better...I will not stop until I either think it is the best I can do or the paddy wagon came to get me...lol

So, I hope Abigail is loved as much as I have grown to love her...We will always have something special between us...:) She will be loaded up in my eldest son's pickup truck tomorrow to go to her new home! I have two of her sisters, the channel back chairs I am "fiddling" with...:) I will post pictures asap for you all to see...

More news, I think I will be designing another model home ...I will keep you posted...fingers crossed! Yay!!!

I am slipcovering Jackie's furniture and at my wits end with Emmers, our golden retriever....She is a handful these last few days...She is even picking on her sister...Poor Bella...See what I mean? Yesterday, I spent 30 minutes running a muck, trying to catch that little stinker down the street...:)
I looked real cute, I am sure...:) lol

I wanted to give you a peek at my slipcover I am working on...I am so pleased with the fit...I am farther along than this...I want to tease Jackie, who I know is stalking my blog for a peek...probably as we speak...Get to packing, Jackie!...I have it covered over here...:) Jackie is in the middle of a move and knee deep in boxes...while I am knee deep in fabric and dog fights...:)

It is the sweetest little hat I think I have ever seen! Adorable, huh? I have worn it all week...It is my new favorite thing to wear...Who could blame me, right?

The "Screaming Memes" all love it! And even request me to wear it...I hope that I am not balding and they just can't break it to me...lol It SCREAMS Meme...I was able to pick the colors, which made it even more special and fun! It felt like it was Christmas, I have to say! When the package arrived...I ran to the mailbox barefoot! It looked like a scene from "A Christmas Story", where the father had won the infamous leg lamp...lol... I am not even kidding...Isn't it funny that on your worst days, there is always something magical that happens? Well, it seems that way for me...I love life... LIFE IS GOOD!

I won this adorable hat from the most adorable blogger, Ashley from Schott of Class! She is the sweetest blogger I think I have ever met...and beautiful too boot! My goodness, she is a knock out!...Blessed in so many ways...She is a newly wed, too!...awww, little wuv birds! She loves blogging about her life and of course, her awesome knitting skills...If only she lived here in TX...I would have her teach me the art of knitting...It seems like it would be a calming craft...Maybe someday...:)

Life Is Good...Even With Old Lemons

Here is my new little sign "Momma Law" bought little ole' me last week while we were suppose to be shopping for groceries...Shhh! ;) And don't mind the old lemons and stale gluten free muffins...I still am struggling with our new gluten free diet...I want to be a great baker, but it is not something that comes naturally...I will have to learn to bake{note to self: and not burn my goods ;)}...Because, well I have to now...Have you seen the prices of GF baked goods? :0

I was diagnosed with Celiac Disease recently, I was very, very ill for a long time...And my whole family gave up gluten to make it easier on me :( I know...that is love, huh?...And it makes me realize even more that LIFE IS GOOD...really, really good...even though I do admit I miss flour tortillas the most and I never wanted a twinkie, until I was told I couldn't ever have another one again...Isn't that how life works? When life gives you stale GF muffins and old lemons...eat them up! ;)

Craigslist Tips

Craigslist is a mysterious place where you can found great treasures...and some not so great...;) I always get a chuckle at some of the things people will put on there...And even some of the categories....Who would try and find love on Craigslist? Well, it is available for free...Who needs E~Harmony or Match.com...when you have Craigslist...Okay, I am being mean...And if you have found true love on Craigslist...Pardon me...;)

I have found some wonderful things on Craigslist...And have sold on there, as well...I have seen some VERY expensive items on there that are ridiculously inexpensive...I think people put things on there when they really need money...Which is a great thing for us stalkers! I wanted to give you some tips you can use when you are dealing with Craigslist....

Screaming Meme's Tricks Of The Trade

Find an item~email the seller with the embedded blue address in the ad...If there is a number on the ad, you may want to call, instead...Wait for the seller to contact you...ask all the Q's you have and see how much they want for it...and then do the ole' Screaming Meme trick...email back and ask for a lower price...Shameless! ;)

Establish a relationship~ No, I am not saying a "relationship", like we discussed above...Please, get your head out of the gutter and work with me here...;) Send a few emails and ask Q's about the item you are interested in...Make sure you get all your Q's answered correctly, so that you are not wasting either of your time... Here are a few Q's I ask for...If the photos are not good, I ask for better ones...with more angles...It saves you BOTH time and gas money... I ask where the furniture has been stored...Outside or in...How long? It is a VERY important Q...Along with has it been in a smoke or pet environment...If so, is there any smells or pet stains {did I mention smells?}?

Payment~cash, Pay Pal, so on...NEVER wire money or use an escrow service....And pay ONLY when you receive your furniture...Duh?

Scams~This is a BIG one for me...I am not one to fell into a rabbit hole, though I do wish I was Alice In Wonderland...I want to be friends with Johnny Depp, I mean the Mad Hatter ;)...He is a good friend to have...And quite funny, which all of you who read my blog know I LOVE funny...;) Okay, back to the SCAMMERS....Read between the lines...if they are being vague about the price, the pick up location, or the item itself...Email them and be direct about what you want and what you are willing to pay and the location you are going to pick up the item...And remember they may be being vague because they are feeling you out...If they don't get back to you or are still acting flaky, I think it is best to cut that one loose...Walk away...That simple...Your time and your life for that matter is more important than a fab deal, anyday...ALWAYS go with your gut...And if you are going to look or pick up an item...PLEASE, don't go alone... If you find a scam on Craigslist, please flag it...All you have to do is push the flag link on the right of the page...BUT, don't get all flag happy and flag everything you see...Flag with care, as they say on CL...;)

Get their digits~email is one way...but I like to hear a voice on the other end of the line...I actually bought, I mean adopted Emily, our Golden Retriever, on CL...{I hate to refer to buying a pet...They are family...Adopt is so much better, don't you think?} I got her digits before taking my very strong, tall and handsome 18 yr. old along for the ride to pick her up...Just in case, someone wanted to steal me...I mean I am a piece of work...Or that is what people tell me {Is that an insult?} Who wouldn't want to steal a Screaming Meme?

Buddy System~ As I said earlier...bring a friend along to be with you...If you can't find a friend {or have no friends :0}...Bring a cell phone along for the ride...Call someone as you are arriving to let them know you are going in...Give them the addy and how long you think the deal will take {I'm starting to get paranoid...am I freaking you out? lol Safety first...there is only one you} And have them call you or you call them...Or have them stay on the phone...I always let the seller know I am bringing a friend along...Remember you are working with cash a lot of times...don't be afraid to say NO! If you don't want to go down in the dungeon or basement...Have them bring it up...For pete's sake... {I have always wondered who Pete was anyway...} Most of the time if it is a small or light item...they can bring it out...I am a scaredy cat...BUT, obviously not scared enough to stop thrifting and dumpster diving!!! lol

Tips {You probably didn't think of}~*search other words that describe what you are looking for...everyone calls something differently from the next...*search misspelled words...People misspell common words and don't check their misspelling before posting an ad...Which is great for us because less traffic to that post...hehe! *Check the free stuff under "For Sale" or search for "Curb Alerts"....That is for all my Dumpster Diving Divas out there! I got your backs! ;) *Bartering...Think about bartering on there...though I have never done it...it sounds interesting....

Here is my lampshade that I will be selling along with a few other decorating and furniture items on CL in the next few weeks...It is a lampshade that I had purchased at a high end boutique shop in Fredericksberg, TX...I am moving the lamp to a new area in my home and the lampshade unfortunately will not work...It is made from Burberry fabric and a fun mix of materials...If you are interested in purchasing it...email me @ screamingmemedesigns@gmail.com ...It measures 12 in. by 10 in. at the bottom and 6 in. by 4 in. at the top...I am asking $30.00 plus shipping...I work through Paypal...I will also be selling a PB style full size black cottage bed for a kid(boy or girl)/teen room and a PB style full size metal kid(boy)/teen headboard (very cool) with matching dresser and side table...A Walnut coffee and end table....Along with a few other furniture and decor pieces...If you are in the Houston area...You can pick it up...

First off, there are no REAL rules when it comes to grouping...It is a matter of taste...BUT there are some great ways to get the style you are shooting for...

I like to work with my nose...No, I don't hammer nails with it...Though I do use my butter knives and high heels from time to time...Mr. Screaming Meme has a way to making his tools magically disappear ;)...So, I use the first sturdy thing I can get my grubby little hands on...Sometimes, I'm just too lazy to go to the garage...Keeping it real...;)

I use my button nose when I am hanging my art or junk some may call it... ( I'm an average height~about 5'9", if you are the world's tallest person or the world's shortest person you will have to eyeball what most people would see...) So, let's say we are shooting for around 5 feet or so...Sometimes this rule will not work...like when you are working with tall ceilings...You will have to consider each space as they come...This is just a basic and general rule, like anything in life, it can be tinkered around with...

Screaming Meme's Grouping Tips~

Rule of thumb {why do rules have thumbs anyway? hmmm?} start with your largest piece in the middle, getting smaller as you move outward...

Start with your largest piece and place it in the center of the area you are working on.

In a circular motion, working your way to the smallest pieces to create a rectanglar or square shape...You don't have to stay in the lines, but you are working around an imaginary rectangle or squared shape...It is fun to work with different elements...so get creative!
Use newspaper to try out the grouping on the wall...Trace and cut the shapes you are working with...Pin or tape them to the wall...

TIP~{Not just for art groupings...Use this trick with all your decorating}... Use your camera to get each look you try out...It will make it easier for you to recreate the one you choose.

Ideas for hanging your art~

For a symmetrical art/picture grouping with all similar in size and shaped items...You want to mirror them to each other...Just try and create a twin on the other side...

Try hanging your art hortizontally like in an entry or over a sofa or mantel...hang in odd numbers...It gives a balanced and complete look.
When you have art in even numbered art/pictures, try hanging them in a square or rectangle to give a professional look. This look works great when you are working on a large wall, like vaulted or high ceilings. Be sure to tightly group these items, it creates ONE BIG statement, rather than a random one.

When working with assymetrical groups with two of the same size...Try staggering them by lowering one and raisng the other...So that they don't mix up completely...

Meet Poor Pitiful Pearl....My New Slipcover

I am so proud of myself...I feel as if I landed on the moon or found some ancient secret of youth...Okay, I guess that is a bit dramatic...But, I do feel VERY proud of myself...I have taken risks and accomplished one of the things that were on my list of things to learn before I kick the ole' bucket...You know...My "Bucket List"...lol ;)

My Bucket List...is quite long, I have to say...There are so many things that I want to experience before I kick the ole'...you know... bucket...Don't you? So many of them are scary to me...Would you believe me if I told you I was afraid to sew on a zipper...lol..I know...A silly little zipper...I tried to get around it...BUT, now I am glad I bit the bullet and did it...I'm a Zipper Making Mama, now...Yes, Sir~Re~Bob! I plan on remaking the cushion with a new foam, so that it is more square {Boxy} like...But I had to get it done...because I had promised you I would...Don't you hate when a blogger or a real person for that matter tells you they are going to do something and they don't? I hate that...So, I was up until early morning hours completing it just for little ole' you...

Here she is...I love her sooo much!!! I had to name her... You know I name everything and rename people ;)...Her name is "Poor Pitiful Pearl"...I think she is beautiful...I felt as though I was an old~fashioned dressmaker, back in the day...I roll play a lot! I don't really know why...I suppose that it is the actress in me...;) You should of been a fly on my wall...I had pins in my mouth and I had the measuring tape wrapped around every inch of Pearl...Like I really knew what I was doing...I really didn't...I am surprised she looks as good as she does...That Poor Pitiful Pearl ;)

She is made from a painters' drop cloth...I washed the material before I started the project...So that it would shrink up a bit...She doesn't look like a drop cloth, does she?

I did the old mock box trick on the cushion cover...It is actually one continually piece...Very easy to do...And it looks more professional, too...

Do you see Poor Pitiful Pearl's little boo~boo? I pinched her a bit...Ouch!!!...Oh well, as least I will be able to tell her apart from her soon to be twin, Olive Oyl...lol... Yes, Olive and Pearl will be twins in the Old Saloon Gameroom...I am off to sew her up and put her on that ole', ugly, FREE chair that I drug home...I can't wait to see the pair together...

Emmers is getting pretty comfy in Ole' Pearl, isn't she? Awww...so sweet!!!...I love that slip covers can be enjoyed and not worried about...All I have to do is wash her up and put her back on...Easy Smeasy...Don't you think? ;)

These Sheets Were Made For Hanging

Why hasn't Hollywood discovered me, yet? Such talent, right? lol ;) What a waste!
I can sing and obviously, I can write beautiful music...Simon {Simy} I am waiting to be discovered...I lay around all dolled up, waiting for the call...

I actually suck at singing, but I do it anyway...Quite annoying, I know...And as for the dolled up part...Well, I'll pretend I am...You can do that in Blogland...Wouldn't it be fun to be able to see what people look like when they blog...I think that would be comical...Wouldn't you love to see what your favorite bloggers look like blogging?

Earth to Meme...Earth to Meme...Focus Meme...;)

Okay, I am focused and ready to reveal the sheets I hung as curtains....They are cheap sheets I bought at Walmart...I bought the king sized sheets for the big window and the twin sized sheets for the adjacent window...The king sized sheets are $20.00 for each set {It only comes in sets} and the twin sized sheets are $14.00 for each set...

* Tip~If you don't have a king bed...Go with the size of beds that you have, so you can use the fitted sheet...Or you could make pillows out of the fabric...

You can use rings or slide it through the top...The top has a solid goldish tan band {I hid mine, by flipping it over and clipping it}...If you don't like the band...Sew across it and make a new pocket...Or iron on adhesive tape...

Here is the detail of the sheets..I love the colors in the stripes...Creams, soft
tan, golden yellow, red and brown...I think it looks rustic...

Here is my rustic farm table close up...Her name is Daisy, I found Daisy, while working on a model home...I fell in love with her reclaimed table top and distressed chairs...I am taking her two chairs away {and putting them on each side of a sideboard...I will be purchasing}...

I will be adding the two {free} chairs from my Saloon Game room...I am slip covering them with an old drop cloth and monogramming the backs of them {I upholstered the chairs in the Saloon with drop cloth, too...}

* Tip~ Drop cloths are another cheap fabric you can use as curtains...Or any other project you need a lot of fabric for...Like slip covers and upholstery...

Here is a picture of my Saloon...Those are the chairs I will be slip covering....

Back to Daisy's reclaimed, rustic table top...Isn't she beautiful?
All distressed and worn out...I love her the most, because my kids can be kids and enjoy eating, art projects, science projects, and I can't forget the most important activity....video gaming {yes, they have friends over and they all bring a TV and set up on Ole' Daisy Girl...So fun!} All without worrying about her getting damaged...That is the beauty of distressed and vintage pieces...They allow you to live and enjoy life more...and look beautiful while doing it ;)....

She is the place where I learned how to slipcover for the first time...Where my sister and I, and our families all gather around for our annual Gag Gift Party...Where my family gathers each holiday to celebrate, she is the table that Mr. Screaming Meme chases me around to try and catch me...With each new ding and scratch she becomes even more special to me...Do you have a "special" piece of furniture that holds memories? Do you name your special furniture? ;)

Look at how the sun beams off of her beautiful coat...and how the sun picks up on her curly eyebrow whiskers...Awwww!

Have you ever seen curly eyebrow whiskers? I love them! Because they make her even more unique and special because of them...Life is beautiful when you look around...Even sweet little doggy eyebrows ;)

A PB Knock Off....

This is a new rod I bought @ Lowe's...They are double rods...It can hold a curtain and a shear...
Screaming Good Idea****You could hang just about anything from it...A fun garland, a string of photos, or valance straight across with an initial...I could go on and on...The possibilities are endless...
It is a knock off of a Pottery Barn rod I had seen in the December issue...I wanted to just do roman shades in this area...But Mr. Screaming Meme wanted a say...I guess, why not? ;) He does reside here...
I decided to go with a minimal look...The rod has classic detailing...I didn't want to have to change all the rods in the room {at least, not at once}, since it is a Great Room...My Great Room is one BIG room...The kitchen, living room, and breakfast nook area {so large...I made it my dining room}...I painted the whole space the same color...You could easily paint it 2 or 3 of a similar shade...I fiddled with it and decided that I liked the same color through out the area...

Still dusty from sitting on the shelf all those months, patiently waiting to be purchased...I'll dust you off and make you shine, Pretty Girl!

Guess what, Mr. Screaming Meme? I am taking down those faux wood shades and putting them in the attic...I have plans for this space...Yes, I always get my way...One way or another ....;)

This is a model home I designed... The antique desk I found was only $50.00...I painted it an olive green.... And added a large crystal knob... It is so much prettier in person...I got a lot of compliments on her... She even made the local newspaper...Not the headlines, of course ;) I added stripe curtains for a little whimsy~ The builders wanted a more masculine look... The dining table belonged to the builder...He wanted me use it in the model home...

Glass is a great option when you are selling a home...It makes the room appear a lot bigger...

The chandy was only $160.00 at Home Depot...

I added trim around the bottoms of the shades...Easy idea to do with any lampshade...You can go as fancy as you like!

A great idea if you have an old chandy...Repaint it! Almost any color would look great...For a cottage look, you could wrap some greenery around it...Or add to the chandy, like an antique garland of spoons, crystals or anything that would make the chandy POP, If they don't have shades, you may want to add them...

I have made some really beautiful chandeliers...They are fun to redesign...The color I choose for this space is Earthy Ocher...You can find it @ Lowe's or Pittsburgh Paints...What I love about model homes, is that they are not over done....

Simple...Relaxing...Easy to maintain... Life is complicated enough, right? :)

Yes, I make up and concoct my home everyday...It is a fun way to decorate, I must say! You can do whatever you choose, when it comes to designing your own home... Isn't that wonderful! YOU CAN DO WHATEVER YOU CHOOSE! Where else does that rule apply...Not many places, huh?

I love to take what I have and create something new out of it...As a child, My Mother's nick name for me was Magpie...She didn't even know at the time, she was so right...

Definition~Magpie~ A bird who compulsively hoards and collects small objects...

I have a organized way of Mag pieing...I promise you that! I wasn't always that way...I was a mess!
I had stuff that I had planned on using everywhere...I finally got my act together...and only collected things I truly thought I would use...And would find a place to store them until I did...Ingenious, huh? We all don't learn at the same speed...lol

Here is a cream curtain I have had for a few years...I decided to literally sew on a patterned fabric to the bottom...I went BIG with the length of the patterned fabric...It is about 3 ft. long...I wanted it to have a WOW factor to it...And my ceilings in my home are tall...This is a great idea for curtains that are not long enough...Cheaper than custom curtains, too!

Here, it is stretched out so that you can see more of the detail... It will touch the floor once I get the rings back on the rods...I moved curtains around late last night...Yes, I "Night Moved", again! I rearrange my furniture and curtains all the time...I love change...it refreshes my soul! I think it drives my family CRAZY! Hey, I don't tell them how to do their job, so they shouldn't tell me how to do mine! Am I right?

Here is a picture of the corner of the bar area...:) I love to add whimsy to my decor...I love that "Spitting On Sidewalks Is Prohibited" sign...It was an Ebay purchase...I thought it was suiting for my Whimsical Saloon Bar...I threw it in an old frame...I plan on getting a custom frame for it... The old boot sign was a Ross find! I plan on repainting it with my last name...Wouldn't that be cute? It's the little touches that make a house a home...

Free Chairs!

This is a picture of a local ad for 2 free chairs (this is not my home)...I have always wanted armless chairs...I emailed her and asked if they were soiled with pet stains or anything gross...:) She emailed me back and said they were not...I couldn't let free armless chairs pass me by...So, I swooped up my keys and dashed out the door!...

They were even bigger than I had thought and they were sturdy...You could tell they originally cost a lot...I am not afraid to get down and do the "sniff check"...To make sure I wasn't bringing home something I would have to discard myself...You should of seen the look on her husband's face...:) Priceless...A girl's got to do what a girl has got to do...;) My plans were to practice slipcovering them and sell them in a local ad.

I cleaned them up and placed them in the gameroom...I was sold...I could invision them dressed in white...I will post them in an upcoming post...:) Can't wait to finish them...:) Look in your local ads (I search online) for free furniture you can shabby up or slipcover out...It is a thrill like no other when little, ole' you transforms what otherwise is considered junk...And it also makes the world a "GREENER" place to be...And green is good...Well, in most cases...;)

The "BIG" Reveal!

This is a headboard bench that I had bought many moons ago...I cherish this bench in so many ways...It is a reflection of who I was back then...A carefree spirit trying to find who she was and where she fit in...

It was the first piece of furniture that I had bought all by myself {as women we often do (and buy things) that aren't truely us}...

It represents my first taste of freedom, I remember going in every week to pay her out...I'd sit on her and daydream about where she would proudly sit on display, in my home...How the kids would run in after school and throw their backpacks all over her...How the little dings and scratches they left, would only make her more special to me...

As the years past on and my tastes had changed...I thought of painting over her french garden inspired mural...I would get the paint brush close to her and freeze...

Why was I so attached to that mural?...I know now that it is because it represented so many things in a difficult time in my life...

She represented a strength I never knew existed in me...She was different from the everyday furnishings...She was imperfect with her distressed corners and freely painted mural, yet that made her even more perfect... She was a reflection of who I was searching for the whole time...A reflection of "Meme"...

So, I've added to her and made her a reflection of who I am today...As the years go by, she is sure to change, as I change and grow...:)

Here is the "BIG" reveal...Drum roll, please...

It is a slipcover for my old bench...It is my first "real" slipcover...I am thrilled with the results...

I have always wanted to learn how...I have paid big bucks for custom slipcovers...And now I think I can do it myself...Actually, I am working on another one as we speak...Well, after we speak ;)...

I have had a few clients who want me to make them one, too...I'm sure it will be a great asset to my Interior Design business...Anything you can do for the client, is savings for not only you, but them...I have learned to do so many things on my own. It is such a great feeling, when you learn something new...:)

That pillow was my Christmas gift, last year...I wanted it so bad!!!!...I was thrilled to open it on Christmas morn ;)...I don't need or ask for much. But, when I do see something that makes me heart flutter...I have to have it!...I can count on two hands all the things that I have ever asked for in my whole life...Because I don't believe in the "gimme gimme" attitude...I believe in having gratitude for the things we have...And I so do treasure those few things...Especially, my old bench and my new Pottery Barn Pillow...:) Thank you, Santa Clause :)

There are so many mistakes on my new slipcover...But I think I did a fabulous job...And with each new slipcover, I am sure to learn more tricks of the trade! Do you know how to make slipcovers? I bet you could, if you really tried!

Here is the back of my bench...I really didn't need to make a full back...I could of used Velcro to hold the ties on the back...

I thought I would slipcover the back...because I have a real problem...I move things around all the time...I actually move things around in the middle of the night...

Yeah, I'm a "Night Mover"...I have hurt any of people, in my village with my "Night Moves" ;)...Not to mention, my dance moves...;) They think they are going to sit on a sofa that was there the night before...Or better...Go flying through the air...Because I moved the ottoman in the "old" walkway...I try and keep my night moving to a minimal ;)

Are You A Concoct~er?

Concoct: To invent, make up, contrive

Yes, I am a concocter...Is that a word? Concocter...I have always had a vivid imagination. That also goes for concocting decor and furnishings in my home...I bought that old mantel about 3 years ago...I didn't really know what I was going to do with it...I just thought it SCREAMED Meme...I love anything black and white...I drug her home, dusted her off and tried her in every area of my home...I sadly had to tuck her away and forgot about her for a while...

Until one day, I was at Kirkland's Home and found that mirror you see hanging in the middle of the mantel...It was on clearance for 75% off...I got it for $50.00! I thought to myself...How cute would this be with that mantel! And then my wheels started turning...I thought it reminded me of an Old Time~y Saloon in the wild west.... I drug that mirror home...I knew without measuring, that it would fit...I am good when it comes to eyeballing...

{Eyeballing...that is a weird word...There goes my imagination, again...Sometimes I think I would be rich, if Hollywood could get in this funny, little mind...It is a mystical place...And quite comical, I must say...;)}

Yes, it fit...So, now I had to find a side board or dresser to sit my new "concoction" on...It had to be bar height to make bar tending easy...You would of thought I would of started with the sideboard and then the mantel and lastly, the mirror...No, Screaming Meme is a bit dyslexic...lol But, it is working for me...so, why worry?

{Not to change the subject, again...;) But I sometimes forget that I am dyslexic...I was strolling along at Lowe's the other day...And I saw John Deere Mowers...I subconsciously read "John Deere" on the mower...I was still strolling along in my own little world and started thinking about the new movie, Dear John...I thought, "Why did that come to my mind?" and I giggled to myself...I read Deere John...Oh, my funny, little brain ;)}

I was working on a model home and had to find a few more pieces before I turned her over to the builders...I walked into a high end rustic furniture shop and there was "THE" rustic Texas style sideboard...Sitting quietly tucked away, like some forgotten treasure...It was perfect for my game room bar, I thought...I had to put her on layaway...And pay her out...

There she is... the "Old Saloon" Bar in our game room...She is so happy sitting there on display...She gets dressed up for the holidays...And when we have guests over, we bring out the "adult beverages" that hide in the cabinets...Yes, she is versatile...I plan on adding glass shelves and a light at the top for when I want to light her up and show her off...I think she is pretty as she is now...It could easily be a hutch in a rustic dining room...A sink could be plopped in the middle of the cabinet and she could be the center of attention in any bathroom or fancy outhouse ;)...The possibilities are endless, when you use your imagination to "CONCOCT"...What can YOU concoct today?

A Screaming Good Idea!

Welcome to Screaming Meme's Cottage...I want to show you some changes I have made since your last visit...

When I moved into this "cottage"...It had a huge niche in the kitchen area {It is an open floor plan}....I had never seen one quite that big!...The previous owners had made a cabinet underneath...{Which helped me come up with my most recent idea...the built~in hutch}...

I pondered and lost sleep over this BIG ole' hole in the wall for months...I finally decided to make it into a french bakery store window display and put all my baked goods over there...You can see that it is empty...I'm still working on the baking part ;)...

I made the awning and hand painted the Patisserie {french for bakery}...I got a lot of compliments on it...Though, it was cute...It didn't Scream Meme...{Notice the "taupe~y greyish peach~y" walls...Yuck!!...it was here when I moved in...I painted it a soft champagne gold}...

It came to me!!! A built in hutch! Well, it should of been a no brainer, actually...I know...;) I was worried about the light switch and how I would be able to build around that...It was far enough over for the whole thing to work! I love the results...I plan to get new things for the hutch, but for know I have shopped the cottage and came up with a fresh new look! :) So, what do you think of the before and after?

I wanted to share a special gift that our family got last Christmas...Though, it wasn't something to decorate our home...It was something to decorate our hearts!

Meet the newest addition to the Screaming Memes'...

Her name is Emily!

She stoled my heart from the moment our eyes met...Who could blame me? She is perfect in every way!

My little monkey...SERIOUSLY... Have you ever heard of a monkey~dog? Well, there she is!

She eats bananas, makes monkey sounds and climbs on you like a monkey!...She even sticks her tongue out like a baby Orangutan!

Her nick name is Monkers, Emmers, Emme, or M &M's!
She comes to all of them...:) She is special, because she healed our broken hearts after our 10 yr. old Golden Retriever, Jesse Jane, passed away last fall...:(

She knows she is special! She works the camera, like no other!

Screaming Meme's Tips For Redecorating On A Budget....

When it comes to redecorating a room, fabric is the quickest and easiest way to achieve a new look....For a simple pick-me-up in the living room, add a few comfy new pillows.... Use a bold pattern you love, a splash of your favorite color....or both.

Another way to go is to create a calming monochromatic look using texture for visual interest. Start by choosing a rich fabric...nubby, tweedy chenille or plush velvet are great to work with...then add some depth with accessories...you might introduce contrast with woven wicker or rattan...or more glamour with shimmery silks or satins.

Whatever your style is, you'll find that one of the easiest ways to tie the room together is by repeating the upholstery or pillow fabric at the windows....

Before you discard a piece of furniture, ask yourself whether it could be painted, covered or used in a different way...

Painting still has to be the most powerful and inexpensive way to get a new look...

Hang a sign inside...An old ad sign or one your make yourself can give a fun, fresh look to your space...

Outside chairs...Don't overlook an old wicker chair or aged garden seat...try it in a room for a fresh and different look...

Sideboards...Treat your sideboard as a restaurant would....showing off your silverware, china and fresh fruit as the basis of an ever-changing display which you can add to and take away from regularly.

Spread candles throughout your home to give it a cozy feel. Scented candles also make for a relaxing and pleasant atmosphere....

Spice up kitchens by hanging pots on the wall.... This will free up cabinets and also give the room a new decorative touch....

A small room can be made to feel larger by painting large stripes or daring colors on the walls....

Decorating with white is a good way to avoid color decisions.... white is soothing color, too.... Be sure to add different textures....and ground the room with black or brown to keep the room anchored....

The 1~2~3 Way to Paint!

Painting a room can be very exhausting...You have to pick out the colors and make sure they flow through out the home...It can be even more exhausting when you and your partner have to agree! So, here is what I tell my clients...to make it as easy as 1~2~3!

Instead of picking one color to paint your walls, try three on the same color chip. They will all blend but will be much more interesting than just one paint color. Find a paint chip of the colors you want.

Pick three colors on the color chip that are next to each other or try one away from the other color or colors, depending on how dark you want to go in the room. They all are from the same color family except they get darker as you go down the color chip. Paint different rooms one of the three colors.

Examples:

Paint the entry the darkest, the living room the lightest, the dining room the middle color.
You could try the ceiling lightest and the walls the darkest.
Or the ceiling the darkest and the walls lightest.

A large wall the darkest and the rest of the walls the middle color etc.

Any combination will work because they are from the same color. It's a great look! And it works well with open floor plans where rooms run together or are seen from other rooms.

Old furniture can be turned into something new with a little imagination!....I painted this armoire for a client...I started with bead board wallpaper and hung it on the doors....I then painted it black and stenciled it with gold paint...And finished off with a little distressing....Get your imagination thinking about what you can do with that old piece of furniture or decor....Love to you~ Meme
